Mercedes confirms talks with Williams

Williams F1 Team is indeed in discussions with Mercedes for its future 6l turbo-hybrid V1.6. Toto wolff, the executive director of Mercedes AMG F1, confirmed the information this afternoon in the paddock of the Monaco Grand Prix where the Brackley team secured the first row of the grid with Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. At a time when speculation sees Renault Sport F1 possibly losing several client teams due to excessive costs (the Losange will realize a press conference tomorrow), the former executive director of Williams confirms that the game of musical chairs among engine manufacturers is well in place.

“It is obvious that we are going to lose a client team in 2015 (McLaren moving to Honda) and it is important for Mercedes to have a regular business base”, commented Toto Wolff. “It is therefore essential to have three customer teams in 2015 and that is why we have started discussions with a number of teams of which Williams is a part. (If the contract were to be signed), it would be for 2014. We cannot sign a partnership with anyone for a single year. »
