Mercedes was ready to promote the German GP

A spokesperson for Mercedes affirmed in the British newspaper The Observer that the star brand did everything to ensure that the German GP is maintained in 2015. The world champion manufacturer last year with Lewis Hamilton was ready to assume half of the financial losses of the 2015 edition and even to promote the event.

“In principle, we do not believe that financial support for individual events should go to teams. We don't see this model as being viable for the future." explained this spokesperson. “Nevertheless, the German GP is a flagship event on the racing calendar. F1 and we had a particular interest in this event. »

The Hockenheim organizers had indicated thatthey no longer had enough time to prepare for the arrival of F1. “Mercedes participated in the discussions by offering a significant contribution to Hockenheim for 2015. This offer was not accepted”, concluded the Mercedes spokesperson.

The FIA has confirmed the cancellation of the German GP scheduled for July 19 which operated alternately between the Hockenheim and Nürburgring circuits since 2008, both in financial difficulties.
