Mercedes more comfortable than in 2015 at Marina Bay
Mercedes experienced various problems with its two drivers during the first day of testing for the Singapore Grand Prix, but the W07 Hybrids showed rather promising performances which should reassure the German team after last year's failure at Marina Bay.
Despite a collision with the wall at turn 18 during the first practice session, Nico Rosberg set the best time of the day, ahead of his closest rival Kimi Räikkönen by more than two tenths (Ferrari).
“It’s a good start to the weekend, it clearly went better than last year, confirmed the German. The second session went better, but we still have room to improve. It's very tight between us, Red Bull and Ferrari. The gaps are much smaller than on other circuits. It promises some great fights. »
His teammate Lewis Hamilton missed half an hour of testing due to a hydraulic problem.
“There was a small problem at the end of FP2, but it doesn’t seem too serious. The mechanics are working on it and it should be fixed by tomorrow, confirmed the three-time world champion. Our pace seemed okay, much better than last year. We are relatively competitive. »
