Mercedes apologizes to Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton cruelly lacking in success at the start of the season. The pilot Mercedes met again a problem with its energy recovery system during qualifying for the Russian Grand Prix after encountering the same problem in Shanghai (China). The three-time world champion finds himself condemned to tenth position on the grid and could even fall further in the event of a change of elements.

“We apologize to him again.”, said Paddy Lowe, Mercedes technical director F1. “Nico (Rosberg) had a great lap and we congratulate him on his performance. Unfortunately, our day was overshadowed by a breakdown which prevented Lewis from fighting for pole and deprived our spectators of what could have been a close fight between our two drivers. »

« It’s an unfortunate combination of circumstances because the problem fell twice on the same driver while we have eight Mercedes Power Units on the grid. We have worked very hard to understand what happened in China, but we will have to make more efforts.”, added Paddy Lowe.
