The 2023 season of Formula 1 will be done without Mick Schumacher. Closer to a departure than a contract extension in recent times, the German was informed by Haas that he would not be renewed for a 3e year with the Americans who preferred to bet on his compatriot Nico Hulkenberg.

« The experience and knowledge Nico brings to the team is evident – with almost 200 Formula 1 starts – and a reputation for excellence in qualifying and as a strong, reliable driver., » underlined Günther Steiner when making official the arrival of Nico Hülkenberg.

Made aware of his non-extension even if it was increasingly obvious, Mick Schumacher was quick to react. If Haas did not even mention it in its official press release, the German wanted to share his feelings after the news, promising to fight to find a starting place in the future.

Mick Schumacher does not give up

« This will be my last race with Haas (the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix), he initially said. I don't want to hide from you that I am very disappointed with the decision not to extend the contract. Nevertheless, I would like to thank Haas and Ferrari for giving me this opportunity. These years spent together helped me gain technical and personal maturity. And when things got tough for me, I realized how much I love this sport. It was bumpy at times but I made steady progress, learned a lot and now know that I deserve a place in F1. The subject is anything but closed for me. Setbacks only make you stronger. My heart beats for F1 and I will fight to get back on the grid."

On social networks, his peers did not hesitate to greet him likeEsteban Ocon certain that his great friend will come back » since it is a “ a matter of time " only. Sergio Pérez also made his comment assuring that Mick Schumacher will do his “ back soon ". Not before 2024 in any case, at least as a starter, because all the places, or almost all, on the 2023 grid are taken. But unless there is a turnaround, at Williams for example where Logan sargeant still has to obtain his Super License, he will not appear there to his great regret...
