Monaco, the most open Grand Prix of the season?

If the trend is once again towards domination by Red Bull, the Monaco Grand Prix has a good chance of being the most indecisive round since the start of the season.

And if the series of 5 victories of Red Bull was coming to an end this weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix? Given the start of this 2023 campaign, it is difficult to see anyone taking over Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez. Charles Leclerc had once thought he could stand up to them by stealing the two pole positions in Baku. A short-lived hope since everything returned to normal in the race.

Nevertheless, the historic event on the Rock often reserves its small share of surprises. What if this 2023 edition reserved its own in turn? On paper, there is Red Bull and the rest but as the weekend approaches we say to ourselves that this Monaco Grand Prix appears to be the most open round of the season. And for good reason.

Regularly on the podium since he moved to the GreensAston Martin, Fernando Alonso wants more. This plus obviously means victory and the Spaniard persists in repeating that he only sees two opportunities to return to success: Barcelona next weekend and of course Monaco!

Red Bull really worried?

Fernando Alonso is aware that the Principality represents practically his only opportunity to shake up the hierarchy. In Monaco, it is not the race pace that matters most but the pace on a qualifying lap because on Sunday it is difficult to overtake. You still have to be faster than the Red Bulls, something that only Charles Leclerc has managed to do this season. Nothing to worry Christian Horner and his men?

« We know that this is not our best circuit, that we will have difficulty highlighting our strong points, anticipated Sergio Pérez. But it’s still Monaco and anything can happen. “Max Verstappen for his part seems to be on the same wavelength as his Mexican teammate moving forward one weekend” a little more difficult and (a platoon) tighter (...) We know that on a tour, we are not necessarily the best. But we still won several pole positions this year. Everything remains possible, but it is certain that here, in Monaco, there can always be surprises. » Hoping that this 2023 edition of the Monaco Grand Prix has its share of surprises in store for us as it usually does.
