Newey: “Renault is in the right direction”

Adrian Newey was satisfied with the progress made by Renault on his Power Unit before the start of the 2017 season. The technical director of Red Bull Racing carefully observes the development of the engine manufacturer due to the new regulations which should make the performance of the 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6 even greater.

“The power should be even greater because we will have a lot of grip, which will mean that the percentage of full load during acceleration will be increased”, explained the British engineer at the Autosport International Show.

“Renault is in the right direction, added Adrian Newey. They had made no progress over the winter two years ago and had even gone backwards compared to the first year the hybrid arrived. But they made a lot of progress last season, making up part of their deficit on Mercedes et Ferrari. I know the figures and they have progressed well. As always, it is the advances of our adversaries that we ignore. »

Adrian Newey also expressed his satisfaction with the development of the RB13.

“I am proud to be able to say that we have passed the nose crash test, it is the first one that we have carried outhe announced. This is often a step carried out in panic at the last minute. The design is now complete and we are now focusing on the implementation. »
