Nico Rosberg: “I really took my foot off the gas”

It’s a Nico Rosberg satisfied who will be able to leave the Hungaroring this Saturday and think about tomorrow's race on the Hungarian track. The German driver pulled off a perfect move today by stealing pole position from his teammate Lewis Hamilton in his last attempt.

A final effort yet marked by the beginnings of uncertainty, the resident of Mercedes having improved his time despite the presence of yellow flags in the area where Fernando Alonso (McLaren) had spun.

A situation which does not worry Rosberg, confident of having respected the rule, by slowing down sufficiently. “There was a double yellow flag, but I really took my foot off the gas and wasted a lot of time and I was slower in this sector than my previous lap, so I'm sure it will be good. » comments the championship leader at a press conference.

Rosberg also indicates that being in his position to start his final attempt was a key element given the conditions of these qualifications. “It was a very exciting qualifying session. The conditions at the start were crazy with all the rain and lots of puddles and several cars went out.

My car was very good in the wet, but when it dried it was the best situation for us because we knew the Red Bulls are good in the wet. I gave it my all at the end of my last lap and it worked. »

On a track where overtaking always remains difficult, Nico Rosberg's pole position could prove to be a determining factor in his fight with his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who only has one point in the championship before this Hungarian event.
