Nico Rosberg tried his luck at Silverstone

Nico Rosberg wanted to maximize his chances of winning at the British GP when the rain arrived in the final laps at Silverstone. The German took advantage of the downpour to regain the advantage over the Williams by Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas but he chose to stay on the track one lap longer than his teammate Lewis Hamilton in the hope of a mistake from the Briton.

“I had both Williams in front of me and I couldn’t get any closer. I was glad the rain came because I was able to pass them and get back to Lewis quickly,” explained the pilot Mercedes. « Lewis stopped and I was convinced it was the wrong decision... even though it turned out to be the right one. But I had to take this chance anyway because I was sure to lose by following Lewis. So I stayed on the track for one more lap. »

Nico Rosberg dropped 7 points to Lewis Hamilton and now finds itself 17 points behind the Championship leader.
