The road still seems long before we see again McLaren fight for the world title in F1. But Woking has clearly laid the most interesting foundation stones for the future in 2019, by securing a well-deserved fourth place in the Manufacturers' ranking, and by posting solid and regular performances.
As executive director Zak Brown recently announced, McLaren's 2020 objective is to further reduce the gap with the infernal trio. Mercedes - Ferrari - Red Bull, without sacrificing the season in view of 2021, and the new technical regulations.
In this context, Lando Norris believes that the English team should reach another milestone in 2020. “The team, I think, has done a really good job of working particularly on the areas that we weren't good at last year, indicates Norris, quoted by the official F1 website.
There were many but there were more specific ones that we struggled with. From the results I've seen, this seems positive. We will take a step forward and I think we can be confident in that – but the importance is unknown compared to other teams. »
As for more objective objectives, the Briton, whose best result remains sixth place in 2019, when Carlos Sainz won the podium in Brazil, wants to be cautious.
“I'm not going to say we're going to win races this season, tempers Norris. I'd love to, but I'm not going to do too much. We must be realistic. »
McLaren will present its MCL35 next February 13.
