Norris 'made the best of a mediocre weekend'

Lando Norris has garnered where it was impossible to shine. In a Tuscan Grand Prix marked by numerous accidents including that of his teammate Carlos Sainz, the Briton managed to get through the drops.

At the finish, he pocketed the eight points for sixth place, which he was easily satisfied with. “We stayed out of the crashes and finished in a much better position than expected. So even though it was a long and very hard race, I am very happy. We didn't have the pace today but I think we made the most of a weekend that looked like it would be mediocre. »

The pilots McLaren were surprised by their car's lack of pace from the start of the weekend. “We came here thinking we were going to be fast, we had a lot of confidence, which went away immediately. It was really difficult to drive, the conditions were similar to Saturday and the car didn't suit us. »

The McLaren drove well below its pure performance standards. Carlos Sainz could not do better than ninth in qualifying and Lando Norris eleventh. The team had become accustomed to competing for the podium on a regular basis.

“We have a lot of work to do with the car, even if we were very fast in some races. The car seems very sensitive to changes in track conditions and surfaces, which makes life difficult for us. »

From an accounting perspective, McLaren limited the damage by maintaining its third place in the constructors' standings and Lando Norris's fourth place in the drivers' standings.
