Esteban Ocon was only able to take 14th position on the grid for the Australian GP in Melbourne. The Force India driver failed half a second behind his teammate Sergio Pérez who finished on the doorstep of Q3.
“I'm an apprentice in Melbourne and I'm not really happy with the qualifications, admitted Esteban Ocon. It's the first time I've reached Q2, but the car has better potential. I learned a lot during this session and I was able to get closer to Sergio in Q2 after being far from him in Q1. Unfortunately I made a small mistake on my last lap and lost the opportunity to be higher up on the grid. »
Esteban Ocon remains positive
Esteban Ocon believes his Force India VJM10 has the potential to finish in the top ten at Melbourne's Albert Park circuit.
“We saw today how tight the middle of the field is going to be this year because small gaps can make a big difference, added Esteban Ocon. Fortunately, we were able to improve the car during qualifications, particularly in terms of procedures. »
“We should have a good opportunity to fight for points, specified the former Manor pilot F1. The first challenge will be to get used to the new starting procedures which should liven up the first round. I'm ready to compete in my first race in Melbourne. »
