Successful operation for Lauda according to doctors

One day after undergoing a lung transplant at AKH Hospital in Vienna (Austria), Niki Lauda would be better according to the statements of Doctor Walter Klepetko, in charge of the surgical operation on the three-time world champion of Formula 1.

Speaker on the Austrian television channel ORF2 Friday noon, the surgeon said " very satisfied " of the operation performed on the old driver, now 69 years old. Walter Klepetko also explained the recovery process after this type of intervention.

“Autonomous breathing begins the next day or even after a few days, it is not urgent. It is important that it is a smooth process and that the patient is then brought out of this difficult situation”, said the doctor.

The hospital also clarified that Niki Lauda had to wait a week for a donor lung; During this interval, he was placed on respiratory assistance.

Niki Lauda was admitted to hospital following a lung infection, the result of poorly treated summer flu in Ibiza (Spain).
