Palmer: rookies can impress

As Jolyon Palmer prepares to play his first season in F1 after having been a Lotus test driver following his GP2 Series title acquired in 2014, the Briton would like to point out that the discipline has seen several rookies stand out from the start in the peloton.

The new recruit of Renault Sport F1 Team notably cited Max Verstappen which left its mark last year. “They had to shut up because Verstappen did a very good job”, noted Jolyon Palmer in City AM “He made mistakes that some older drivers would have avoided but his speed was clearly there. It would perhaps be a little different to arrive directly at a top team and fight for the title from the start, even if Lewis Hamilton proved it was possible in 2007.”
