A champion always has his detractors and his “haters”. Sunday, Max Verstappen still had proof. The Dutchman, winner of the Miami Grand Prix, had to endure a few boos from the Florida public when he reached the podium. A crowd that had a certain fondness for two of the reigning world champion's rivals. On the applause during the pilot presentation ceremony, Sergio Pérez and Lewis Hamilton were the two most popular drivers among American fans.
At a press conference after the race, when asked about these boos, Max Verstappen preferred to respond with irony. “I think if I drove in the back, no one would react, right? the pilot reacted Red Bull. I think it's normal when you win and they don't like who wins. »
Only victory counts for Verstappen
If in Europe, the Batavian very regularly has a “fan base” very solid and very active on the circuits, this is much less the case on other continents. But Max Verstappen is not disturbed by this disaffection of the American public. “It's something for me that doesn't pose a problem as long as I win, that's the most important thing for me. I take the trophy home and they go home to have a good evening. »
The Dutchman's calmness combines with the joy of a successful comeback, after starting from 9th place on the grid for the Miami Grand Prix at the end of an almost perfect race. “It’s a magnificent victory. (…) It’s certain that winning a race starting from 9th place is always very satisfying,” declared Max Verstappen before getting on the podium.
