No room for error on my side of the garage – Gasly

Given the modest contribution made by his AlphaTauri teammate Yuki Tsunoda, the Frenchman knows that Faenza's hopes in the fight for the Manufacturers' championship rest mainly on his shoulders.

No room for error on my side of the garage – Gasly

Two Grands Prix in a row without scoring points, this had not happened to Pierre Gasly in 2021 before the Monza-Sochi doubleheader.

In Italy, the Frenchman had once again qualified very well but a priori innocuous contact with the McLaren de Daniel Ricciardo at the first braking of the Sprint had ruined his entire Milan weekend.

Never really on the pace in Russia, just like his team Alpha Tauri, the Norman was also sent spinning by Lance stroll (Aston Martin) during the last laps where he could have done his best in the rain.

Gasly, who has scored 66 of his team's 84 points so far, knows that he is the main provider for Faenza (Italy), currently 6th in the Manufacturers' standings, 19 lengths behindAlpine.

« I have to be there every weekend, confided the Rouennais from Istanbul where he hopes to bounce back this weekend (October 8-10).

I am 9th in the championship (Drivers) before (Fernando) Alonso. I want to keep this place. As for the Manufacturers, it is becoming more and more complicated after the last two weekends which were not good but it is not impossible.

I think the next 2-3 races are going to be pretty crucial to stay in the championship fight ».

While the AT02 has proven its competitiveness more than once this season, AlphaTauri has seemed to falter in execution several times. An observation that Gasly wants to qualify.

« Frankly, I think the team had never played at such a good level, tempers the winner of Monza 2020.

Afterwards, there were some rather special situations. There were small errors with quite a significant impact.

With Yuki being a rookie, it's complicated. This leaves us not the slightest room for error on our side of the garage if we want to be able to fight against Esteban (Or with) and Fernando who both score points.

We missed two big chances but we learned from them. We will clearly do a better job if we find ourselves faced with a similar scenario in the future. ».

AlphaTauri is 25 points ahead of Aston Martin in the Manufacturers' standings. A seemingly comfortable gap in the middle of the grid but in an exciting season where Alpine and McLaren have won, all it takes is one crazy race for everything to change.
