Pérez: “One of the saddest days of my career”

Sergio Pérez fortunately has no symptoms of Coronavirus but his pain is clearly visible on his face. Forced to leave his seat at Racing Point after a positive test at Silverstone, the Mexican spoke about the situation in a video shared on social networks.

Pérez admits to having traveled to his native country after the Hungarian Grand Prix but the Mexican assures that he scrupulously respected the safety instructions and explains that he went to the bedside of his mother, who was hospitalized after an accident.

« This is one of the saddest days of my career, confided Pérez. We had put a lot of effort into preparing for this weekend at Silverstone. I was convinced that I had a very competitive car. This situation shows how vulnerable we are to this virus. I followed all the recommendations of the FIA and my team.

After the Hungarian GP, I took a private plane to Mexico to see my mother in the hospital for 2 days. She was the victim of a serious accident. I then returned to Europe, always respecting health measures. I have no symptoms and don't know where I caught the disease.

I want to thank all the other drivers for the support they gave me, my team as well, the authorities, and the fans. I am convinced that I will come back stronger. Be safe and take care of yourself and your loved ones ».

Pérez was replaced by his former Force India teammate Nico Hülkenberg
