Pérez: Red Bull is an option but time is running out

We thought he was leaving for Williams but the Grove stable (United Kingdom) indicated this Friday that George Russell and Nicholas latifi would be well preserved next year.

En parallèle, Alfa Romeo confirmed in the morning that their Kimi Räikkönen-Antonio Giovinazzi duo would be unchanged next year as well.

These are therefore several doors that closed in front of Sergio Pérez, without a steering wheel since his cavalier ousting from Racing Point to make way for the arrival of Sebastian Vettel in Aston Martin

With Haas which is moving towards a 2021 pair composed of Nikita mazepin et Mick Schumacher, the Mexican therefore only has one tangible option left to bounce back next year: Red Bull, if by chance Alexander albon was not to be preserved. Pérez admitted it half-heartedly this Friday in Imola.

« I would not exclude this avenue, replied the person concerned when asked if he was in discussions with the Austrian team. Until nothing is confirmed, this remains an option, right? ».

During the last Portuguese GP, Christian Horner repeatedly said that Albon's extension was the preferred solution at Red Bull. The British manager had also said that the other potential candidates – Pérez and Nico Hulkenberg not to mention them – would surely be willing to wait as long as necessary.

« I imagine that Red Bull would have priority in the eyes of its drivers », blurted Horner.

Aware of the attractiveness of a bucket seat alongside Max Verstappen, Pérez assures that he cannot afford to wait indefinitely.

« The room for maneuver is very narrow, underlined the Mexican veteran. You can sometimes take the risk of waiting and seeing how the solution evolves. But we are reaching the end of the season. The teams need to know what their future will hold. The same goes for the pilots. I can't wait much longer ».

Helmut Marko, Red Bull special advisor, recently admitted that the identity of Verstappen's teammate would be finalized in the coming weeks. Maybe it's worth waiting a little longer, Checo, right?
