Peter Sauber bets on new blood

The year 2010 was tumultuous for Sauber. Separated from BMW, the Swiss team had a mediocre start to the season before making progress at the end of the season. Pedro de La Rosa was replaced by Nick Heidfeld mid-season, but it will be the Mexican Sergio Perez who will take the second wheel in 2011.

Peter Sauber, the owner of the eponymous team, was satisfied with the performance of the Japanese who was making his first full season in F1. “Kamui inspired the whole team,” admitted Peter Sauber. “His refreshing and constantly attacking style really made us smile again. His overtaking is always magnificent to watch. He has clearly improved this year and I am sure that we can still expect a lot from him. »

The owner of the Swiss team therefore does not regret his choice. “When I hired him a year ago, I received criticism from some experts,” added the owner of the Swiss team. “But my instinct told me that Kamui had something special. And today, I am delighted to have him on the team. »

Peter Sauber is taking the gamble on youth by hiring Sergio Perez who will provide essential financial support to maintain the team. The composition is risky, but the bet has already paid off with Kamui Kobayashi. “I think we will be in good shape on the drivers’ side. Kamui has also progressed well on the technical side, and I have no doubt that he will take on his new responsibility. »

“Sergio is full of talent. For him, it will be a question of learning quickly. He will be able to take things from Kamui like Kamui did with Pedro (de la Rosa) and Nick (Heidfeld). But there will be no first driver in the team. The drivers will be tied. But of course, I hope Kamui brings his additional experience to the track. »
