Petrov wants to learn from Kubica

Vitaly Petrov has just completed his tests with Renault F1, four weeks after its formalization within the time of?enstone. Although he knows that he has a lot of work left, the first Russian driver in F1 is satisfied with his first days of work. “ I have been working with Renault F1 for a month now; I get to know the team and learn how it works, reveals Petrov. I also spent as much time as possible at the circuit and in the pit in order to listen to all the discussions. I received a lot of help and I integrated into the team very quickly, but I know I still have a lot to learn. »

During these four weeks of testing, Vitaly Petrov often had to face bad weather conditions. “ I think that in total I must have had two or three days of driving on a dry track, which is a bit difficult for a beginner because we have to learn to work on the setup in good conditions. It is certain that I would have preferred to still have days of riding at my disposal but there is no longer any opportunity now. The weather was the same for all the teams so there's no point in complaining. »

However, Vitaly Petrov was able to count on a team dedicated to improving the Renault R30. The Russian pilot is impressed by this development capacity. “ It?s totally different from GP2. Here there are 500 people in the team and everyone is ready to help you improve and develop the car. The scale and speed of development are very different from what I was used to. »

To gain competitiveness, the 2 GP2009 Series vice-champion thinks he will be able to count on the contribution of Robert Kubica, with whom he maintains a good relationship. “ We get along well. We were together at every de-briefing during the tests. We often discuss car things at the end of the day. The goal of every driver is always to beat his teammate but Robert is very experienced and I can learn from him. When the season starts, my goal will be to be as close to him as possible. »
