Why is it turning heads?

Ayrton Senna who signed with Lotus for the 1985 season even though he had already committed to extending his contract with the Toleman team; Jean Alesi who must join Williams in 1991 but who changes his mind when Ferrari the contact ; Jenson Button who tried to join Williams in 2007, but who found himself blocked by his employer BAR even though a pre-contract had been signed... If there is no shortage of examples of contractual imbroglios (to read on autohebdo.fr) in Formula 1, the one which today involves Oscar piastri et Alpine is unique in that it concerns a driver who has not competed in the slightest Grand Prix or participated in the slightest free practice session 1 as part of a race weekend. The Australian hopeful built his reputation in the junior disciplines with a first title in F. Renault Eurocup in 2019 which then allowed him to join the Renault Sport Academy.

At this point, the Piastri name begins to gain value and attract the attention of top teams in Formula 3, including Prema. With two victories and six podiums in 2020, Piastri wins the F3 title at the end of the championship finale at Mugello, 3 and 4 points ahead Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) and Logan sargeant (Prema). He continues with the Italian team in F2 for the 2021 season. Six Main Race victories, including four in a row, gave him the crown, becoming the sixth driver to win the F2 championship in his first season, and the fifth driver to consecutively win the F3 and F2 titles.
