The end of the series is near. According to our indiscretions, the arrival of Pierre Gasly in Alpine should be made official this week, while the Formula 1 will perform at the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend. Under contract with the team Alpha Tauri until 2023, the Norman was able to obtain an exit voucher from Helmut Marko, after an agreement was reached between Alpine et Red Bull to release Pierre from his last year of contract.

Dr. Marko made no secret of it, he was ready to let the Norman leave one year before the end of his commitment for service rendered, on the condition of finding him a quality replacement. As soon as the Colton Herta track was abandoned due to the American's ineligibility for the superlicense, the Austrian set his sights on Nyck De Vries, whom he met in Graz in Austria a few days after the superb performance of the Dutchman at the wheel of the Williams (9th), while he replaced Alexander albon.

Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon together at Alpine

If the officialization of Pierre Gasly at Alpine has been awaited for several weeks, this is mainly due to the difficulty for De Vries to free himself from his prior commitments for 2023 with Toyota en WEC and Maserati in Formula E. This seems to be a done deal since the native of Bois-Guillaume is about to officially join the Blues for 2023.

After a six-month freelance stint in 2019 with Red Bull, Pierre, winner of the 2020 Italian Grand Prix and author of three podiums in Formula 1, will therefore discover a third different team for what will be his sixth full season in the premier category. He will team up with the other French driver on the grid, his former comrade from karting Esteban Ocon, in a 100% tricolor entity within a team currently in battle for fourth place in the constructors' championship.
