Long awaited, the new generation of single-seaters has finally taken to the track. It was near Barcelona where the first winter tests took place. For three days, teams and drivers were able to work on different points and thus already begin the first phase of development of their car with a view to the 2022 season. Among those present on site, Pierre Gasly took advantage of the different driving sessions to familiarize himself with his new car, the AT03Alphataurs.

« The tests were very productive, he confides. It was very interesting for everyone to see how these new cars behave on the track. We learned a lot about our car during each stint but also about driving. I was able to make my first marks and get the most out of them."

Although happy with this first full-scale experience, the Norman remains lucid and knows that these are only pre-season tests. “ We can't really look at the performances at the momentHe says. The goal was to focus on myself and try to provide good feedback to the team so that they understood what I needed from the car to find more performance. I have to admit, these cars are very different to drive, obviously from an aesthetic point of view but also in the way they react, and even in the way you enter corners and brake. I tried different things and tweaked my driving to work with the balance of the car. It's all part of the learning process »

Unfortunately for him, these winter tests ended in the gravel trap. Pierre Gasly actually locked his wheels at the start of turn 5 and hit the protective barriers, ending his week of testing. But the Habs prefer to see the positive in it. “ It's about finding the limits during the tests and we were still able to collect a lot of data during these three days »
