Pierre Gasly would be willing to look elsewhere. In any case, this is what the French declared for the English media RaceFans. The road being blocked at Red Bull until 2025, following the extension of Sergio Pérez after the Monaco Grand Prix, the Norman observes the opportunities for its future in F1. His contract with Alpha Tauri will end next year.

“Beyond 2023, I am considering all options because I have nothing beyond that. These are things we need to discuss with Helmut. It's obvious they want to keep me in their fold but we have to figure out how to make it work. These are just normal conversations that are going on. »

Arriving in the Red Bull junior program 10 years ago, Gasly had climbed the ranks until obtaining a seat at Red Bull in 2019. But poor results and a gloomy atmosphere got the better of his place with the team Austrian. The Frenchman was then demoted mid-season to Toro Rosso, now AlphaTauri. Since then, Pierre Gasly has proven his place in F1, including 3 podiums and a victory at Monza in 2020.

Even if he finds the renewal of Pérez " logic ", he believes that his three good seasons spent with the Faenza team could have allowed him to return to Red Bull. “I showed last year, when the car was more competitive, what I could do in the middle of the grid. Not just last year, but in 2020 and 2019 as well. (…) This is why I say that I understand their position, but that does not mean that I understand the fact that things must remain as they are. But it's just about finding what's best for everyone. »

Internal discussions between Gasly and Marko

Gasly has confirmed that he is in discussions with Helmut Marko to clarify his situation within the Red Bull family and to understand what the new contract of Perez means for its future. “It has an impact on my career and the ambitions I can have. We're talking with Helmut at the moment to obviously figure out what's best for all of us and how we move forward from there. (…) They have known me since I was a child and we have a very good relationship with Helmut. »

Present at AlphaTauri for 3 years, the Normand would like to be able to finally play for the first places. " EObviously, I have ambitions and my ambitions go beyond the simple fight for the top 10. That's not what I work for every day. I want more than that, I want to fight up front. » Gasly even opened the door to a sort of loan, likeAlexander albon in Williams, to stay within the Red Bull fold. “At the moment, I would say it is possible. I don't want to elaborate because I don't want to make headlines about what's happening. »

The AlphaTauri driver is committed to his team until 2023 and prefers to remain focused with his current team for the moment. “I am engaged with AlphaTauri at the moment. I give my best and I will always give my best to this team, even if we go through more difficult times. This is priority number one (…)”
