Pierre Gasly: “By far the best weekend of the year”

“It’s by far the best weekend of the year”. Disappointed with his start to the season with Red Bull Racing, Pierre Gasly will be able to leave Silverstone with the feeling of accomplishment.

Fourth under the checkered flag, the Milton Keynes driver notably fought with Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), before giving in in the first sector to the attacks of the Monegasque, who set out to take third place behind the two Mercedes de Lewis Hamilton et Valtteri Bottas.

“It was cool, admits the Frenchman about his duel with the Monegasque. I didn't expect him to maintain speed on the outside, and I could have gone wider and tried something different, but in the end he had fresher tires. »

Gasly, who had let time pass Max Verstappen, the two being engaged on different strategies, also took advantage of the clash between his teammate and Sebastian Vettel to show himself the best of the Red Bull clan.

Le Normand indicates that the post-Austrian Grand Prix was decisive in this reversal of the situation. “A lot happened after Austria, with a lot of meetings with the team, to see how to improve things, comments Gasly.

We made many changes, and from the first test session we saw the step forward. Friday was good, Saturday was good, Sunday too. I just enjoyed the whole weekend. We can be satisfied with the progress made.

There are so many parameters. It's not just one important thing, there were several things to adjust and maximize. It is not yet perfect but the step forward is major in several areas. We still have to find the last plus to get on the podium.

I was always confident that when things were sorted out, everything would be better. Everything came together well this weekend. »

Pierre Gasly further specifies that the contact of the first round with Lando Norris (McLaren) slightly damaged his RB15 – Honda. “It could have been worse. I don't know if this really affected performance. » concludes the Red Bull driver, who now intends to continue the British momentum.
