Pierre Gasly sparks in Bahrain

Pierre Gasly will remember this 2018 Bahrain Grand Prix for a long time. The driver Toro Rosso finished at the foot of the podium behind Sebastian Vettel and both Mercedes de Valtteri Bottas et Lewis Hamilton, and offers the best result for a Honda engine since the return of the Japanese engine manufacturer in 2015, with McLaren.

Author of a better flight than Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), the Frenchman took the advantage over the Australian from the outside at the first corner. If the latter regains his position for a while before giving up, the Frenchman will then be confronted with Kevin Magnussen (Haas) to consolidate his fourth place and maintain this rank until the finish, to sign his first points in F1.

“It’s incredible what’s happening to us, admits Gasly at the microphone of Canal +. It's been a great weekend since Friday. We confirmed in qualifying. We knew that in the race it would be complicated and in the end, there were opportunities that presented themselves. The car was great and I was able to push until the end. We were very fast.

For the second Grand Prix of the season, it's incredible. I don't realize yet, it's only the second race. We knew we had the potential, but to go from there to finishing fourth is just magical. »

The Norman's performance was also rewarded with the title of Driver of the Day this Sunday.
