After announcing the soft and medium tires for China, the choice that had been made for the opening race of the season at Albert Park, Pirelli revealed the compounds that would be used for the following three races until the Monaco Grand Prix. If the Bahrain Grand Prix is kept on the calendar, it will be the first time that the Italian manufacturer visits the kingdom. There are soft and medium tires available. For the Catalunya circuit, soft and hard rubbers will be required while the Monaco Grand Prix will allow the teams to use super soft rubbers for the first time which will complement the soft rubbers.
Paul Hembery discusses Pirelli's strategy to offer more intense races than last year by offering softer tires this year. “Our choices for this season have been designed to increase the level of performance, as you have seen with our latest selections”, explains the sporting director of the Italian manufacturer. “The super soft tire is the only type of rubber identical to last year.
