Pirelli hopes for less graining in Shanghai

Pirelli will closely observe the degradation of the medium tires at this weekend's Chinese GP, with whitewall tires being used for the first time this season in competition. The manufacturer of the F1 will also bring the soft and super soft tires which should be favored for the race.

“We bring the middle selection of our mixes, but we expect the teams to favor the soft and super soft, depending, of course, on the weather conditions, but also taking into account that only two trains of medium are available », commented Mario Isola, Pirelli sporting director.

“In previous editions we were able to notice a certain form of graining due to long straight sections, but we were able to observe in Barcelona, during the tests, that the phenomenon had considerably reduced this year, and it would be nice if we could confirm it in Shanghai. In the event of rain and cool temperatures, we will provide “rain” tires with different compounds to offer drivers more grip.”, specified Mario Isola.

All teams have seven sets of the softest tires, 4 of the middle and 2 of the hardest for the first five Grands Prix of the season. If the Shanghai track is usually “green” during the first tests, the drivers will have to accumulate laps so that the grip evolves favorably, with only one discipline evolving in support of the race.
