Pirelli issues findings on Vettel tire failure

The Pirelli press release, released this Friday, could not be more brief and explicit: “As has become clear since Sunday afternoon, a full investigation has confirmed that the original cause of the tire failure was a slow puncture. The subsequent return to the pits on a deflated then flat tire led to the final failure. »

In the running to limit the damage and play for the podium after Kimi Räikkönen's other tire problem on the other SF70H, Sebastian Vettel had his top 3 fly away, and thus let Lewis Hamilton get back to one point in the Drivers' Championship before the next Hungarian Grand Prix in a week's time.

Pirelli investigates for Räikkönen

The Italian manufacturer, however, admitted that it had not yet established the root causes of the failure on the car by Räikkönen. « Kimi Räikkönen's damaged tire shows less evidence of what happened.

Further testing and analysis is still underway in Pirelli's laboratories and indoor testing facilities. It will take a few more days to reach a definitive conclusion. »
