Pirelli expects higher constraints

Pirelli should not take too many risks with its tire choices in 2015. After a difficult season in 2013, the Italian manufacturer opted for caution last year when Power Units came to replace the V8s. The new rubbers have proven to be resistant but have reduced the strategic choices.

Paul Hembery wants to remain conservative in 2015. The constraints imposed on the tires could change depending on the progress made by the teams which will benefit (except McLaren-Honda) of thaw in the development of the 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6. “We knew roughly what to expect but we weren't sure how it would feel on the track. We could make aggressive choices by repeating the choices that could have been prudent (last year). We saw notable progress at the end of last season”, underlined the sporting director of Pirelli on crash.net.

Pirelli is aware that the safety margin taken last year was significant, the supplier of F1 having sometimes even had to modify his choices considered too conservative. But the expected increase in performance encourages the manufacturer to exercise great caution in order to avoid the black series of 2013. “We expect a dramatic increase in performance next season. Tire usage would change dramatically sif the cars start to gain one or two seconds per lap » added Paul Hembery.
