Pirelli prepares for all conditions at the US GP

Pirelli preferred to keep its medium and soft tires for the US GP held on October 25 in Austin (Texas) due to the particular conditions encountered on this atypical circuit run counterclockwise due to fairly significant temperature differences (which could have gone from 18 to 37°C in the past).

“With the Drivers' Championship about to reach its conclusion, all attention will be focused on how the race unfolds and we couldn't think of a better place for it to generate such interest. The configuration of the track, the short length of the pit lane and the various tire options leave the field open to numerous strategic options, and that is exactly what keeps the spectator in suspense. We were able to witness this during the last edition! », underlined Paul Hembery, Pirelli sporting director.

Lewis Hamilton won last year by implementing a two-stop strategy, starting on soft tires before switching to mediums on the 16th and 33rd laps. But the safety car had changed its strategy. In 2013, Sebastian Vettel had managed to win by making only one pass through the pits.

Pirelli estimates that the difference in performance between the two types of rubber is eight tenths of a lap apart.
