The weekend did not start in the best way for Sergio Pérez in Great Britain. With reduced running time due to rain in Free Practice 1, the Mexican was unable to optimize the second practice session on Friday afternoon. “Checo’s” RB18 was plagued by mechanical problems, despite the 17 laps covered by the Guadalajara driver.

Problems confirmed by Christian Horner, team director Red Bull, at a press conference. “We found some problems [on Pérez's car] after the session. They were settled overnight. We hope that the car will be more within its operating window, to his liking. »

Beyond the mechanical glitches, Sergio Pérez was especially affected by the Red Bull's lack of pace during FP2. The winner of the Monaco Grand Prix showed some disappointment at the end of the first day of the weekend. “It wasn't a great session today. Based on the preparation we had and the simulator data, the car is miles away from its true performance, admitted the Mexican after the second practice session. We assume there is something going on that we need to understand. And yes, it was a very, very short racing simulation in the end. This is not a good start. We're behind, so we just have to figure out what's going on. »

“It’s going to be difficult” to get back into Ferrari rhythm according to Pérez

On paper after EL2, Ferrari seems more comfortable than Red Bull at Silverstone, even if the race simulations put the Austrian team in a preferential position. A feeling that is not shared by Pérez, not very enthusiastic about the pace of his RB18.

But the Mexican has hope in his team's abilities to give him a good car. “It's going to be quite difficult [to come back] but we've done it before. I think we are able to put things in the right place. We need confidence in these fast corners. As long as I'm able to get my confidence back, I think things should be fine. » With the issues resolved on car #11, the car Austrian should show her true potential on Saturday, during qualifying.
