The redemption of the F1 by Liberty Media begins a new chapter in the discipline. The American group wants to rejuvenate the image of the Championship to revive public interest. The first results seem promising, but the major projects of the new leaders, such as new tests, will still take time before being implemented.
Kimi Räikkönen in any case seems confident in the will and abilities of Liberty Media and F1 director Chase Carey to ensure the future of his discipline.
“They are trying to make it more important, perhaps also easier to follow and to involve the public more, noted the 2007 world champion in an interview done for the sponsor of the Team Ferrari Shell. But it will only be in a few years, when the new regulation is in force (in 2021), that we will see the impact of their arrival. They have only just taken orders. They're a bit middle of the road. »
“I think they put a lot of effort into F1, Iceman added. They listened to everyone, followed the right rules and made the right requests. This is why I think it will be a good decision only when we have the new cars. »
Liberty Media has already launched roadshows ahead of Grands Prix, a way of bringing F1 closer to the public. The group also wants to be more present on digital platforms and better distribute profits between the teams.
