Red Bull is not “Max Verstappen Racing” – Verstappen

He appeared snooty throughout, throwing his replies like so many barbs at the attention of these cheeky scribblers who dared to ask him annoying questions. First asked about his possible frustration in light of the resulting performance deficit that Red Bull compared to Mercedes, Max Verstappen replied that he accepted the current situation.

« Our position remains enviable, many people would like to be in my car and fight for the podiums, declared the Dutchman.

I don't know why people think I'm super upset. It’s always better than being last, I can tell you that. We try to do our best. We will continue to test new pieces this weekend ».

If Verstappen has just had 3 podiums in a row, including a pair of 2nd places, his RB16 is not yet perfectly optimized and his teammate Alexander albon appears to be struggling more, particularly in qualifying.

More generally, since the departure of Daniel Ricciardo at the end of 2018, the gap in results between Verstappen and his teammate, first Pierre Gasly then Albon, is tangible to say the least.

The Dutchman, however, brushes aside the idea that the Milton Keynes galaxy only revolves around a single star.

« It's not my stable, I don't own it, he declared dryly. I drive for the team. I always find it a bit weird when people talk about “my team”. Otherwise, it would be called Max Verstappen Racing.

I'm a pretty laid back guy and I don't hide anything. The team wants the best overall result possible and we are working hard to achieve this goal. ».

At his side, Albon avoided the subject of the difficult comparison with Verstappen by affirming that any driver of F1 focused solely on his own performance.
