Comfortably installed at the top of the two championships, the Red Bull team and Max Verstappen did not expect to experience such a remarkable first part of the season.

Note these two numbers carefully: 63 and 82. These are respectively the points in advance that count Max Verstappen et Red Bull leading the two championships in Formula 1. A significant gap, a gulf even, which separates them from Charles Leclerc et Ferrari. The French Grand Prix increased the lead of the leaders, with the victory of the Dutchman and the abandonment of the Monegasque.

At the end of the 7th victory for the reigning world champion, Christian Horner gave his first assessment of the season. “If you had told me last year, that with the biggest regulation change in 40 years and with the effort we have put into the 2021 championship, we would be sitting here with 8 Grand Prix wins and the lead in the two championships with 63 and 82 points in advance, it would have been beyond my wildest expectations”, said the British director.

Performing well on all tracks, more reliable and more stable than the Ferrari, the RB18 is a formidable weapon this season. “It’s truly a symbol of the determination, dedication and hard work that went on behind the scenes”, greeted Horner. The boss of the Austrian team also congratulated his colt, Max Verstappen, author of 7 victories in 12 Grands Prix. “I think he drives with great maturity. You can see the way he and Charles compete against each other, there is a real respect between the two drivers. »

Red Bull expects even more competition at upcoming Grands Prix

If the first part of the season was very good for Milton Keynes, Christian Horner remains very cautious in view of the next Grands Prix. “Ferrari is very competitive this year and we have seen other teams like Mercedes who return (…). I think for the second half of the season, obviously, it's going to be very competitive. »

Red Bull is counting on the fast circuits – Spa-Francorchamps and Monza in the first place – to perpetuate the good dynamic. You will first have to go through Budapest, a route which would be more difficult for the RB18. “We will have different circuits, different challenges to face and there are some interesting trips to come. We have Hungary next weekend, which will probably play more to the Ferrari's strengths than ours. And then we have a few circuits after the break that will suit us a little better. It will be fascinating to see how things develop in the next races. »
