Le Renault Driver Development ceased operation at the end of the 2009 season, after supporting established drivers like Robert Kubica, Romain Grosjean, Heikki Kovalainen and Luca di Grassi. Since the partial withdrawal of the French manufacturer and the arrival of Genii Capital in the capital of Reanult F1 Team, the RDD had fallen into disuse.
Only Gravity Sport Management, a subsidiary of Genii Capital and managed by Eric Boullier - also principal team of Renault F1 Team -, could guarantee certain drivers to approach the Losange team and benefit from the budget to achieve their objectives. But Eric Boullier wants to revive Renault Driver Development for, like Ferrari and especially Red Bull, benefit from the contribution of a sector of young pilots.
“Spending time in the team could be a good solution for them, so that they understand how it works and so that they can realize the complexity of F1,” raised the director of Renault F1 in Autosport. “They would need to race in GP2 or World Series by Renault, but they could also take part in F1 testing. »
