Renault, between Ricciardo's hope and Ocon's disappointment

What can you hope for Renault in Imola (Italy) this Sunday November 1st? The scenarios turn out to be extremely varied. The Jaunes-et-Noirs can first of all aim for a top 5, or even a podium on the side of Daniel Ricciardo.

The Australian will start from fifth place at 13:10 p.m. after what he describes as « (S)our best qualifying lap of the season”. “We found more speed as the sessions went on. This circuit is incredible.

This fifth place is also very important for track position as we could have a superb race battle tomorrow as the gaps are small with the cars around us. If we get off to a good start, we could have a great race."

Conversely, the horizon is less clear for his teammate Esteban Ocon, only 12th in testing. « I am disappointed with the result. I didn't see it coming, especially since we had a good practice session and a great Q1, explains the Norman.

It wasn't my best first lap in Q2 and we need to analyze what happened in my second effort. There are still many opportunities left. We have the free choice of tires for the race and we will see what happens to get back into the points. »

Its Sports Director, Alan Permane, recognizes a feeling of disappointment but wants to recall his Portuguese race to maintain hope (started 11th, finished 8th). “Esteban didn’t really take advantage of the chances and he’s the first to admit that he could have done a little better.

However, it will be well placed at the heart of our competitors and with the free choice of tires. Nothing is lost. He had a good race at Portimao with a similar position on the grid. So we expect a good race from both cars. »
