Renault and the lack of “luck” at Monza

They were expected to fight for the podium, but they were ultimately absent from any battle. In Monza, the Renault were unable to confirm their very good performance at Spa seven days earlier.

If they brought back 12 points to their team, Daniel Ricciardo et Esteban Ocon were not entirely satisfied at the checkered flag. Starting with the Australian who was finally satisfied with his 6th place after a race full of twists and turns.

« It's not too bad to finish sixth today (Sunday). I feel like I couldn't have done more under these circumstances., regrets Ricciardo. The safety car and the red flag did not work in our favor. After a good start and a solid pace, the timing was not good, but we can't change that. I'm happy with how it went today, we had a good start, we were showing good pace and we're already looking ahead to next weekend ».

Esteban Ocon for his part was not entirely satisfied after crossing the finish line. “ I'm torn, because we had a good race on track and we took some good points, but it was also one of those races where you wonder what could have been when you see the podium ».

This is because he tried to make Mark Slade, his race engineer, understand about his deceleration lap by explaining to him that they missed “ a huge opportunity » forcing him to stop him dead in his tracks before Cyril Abiteboul does not definitively put an end to the explanation.

He then deplored a lack of “ chance » given the race choices but he still welcomed the “ nice effort » of his team.
