Renault does not want to sacrifice reliability

Just before the start of the first pre-season tests in Barcelona, the Renault RS16 was unveiled this morning in Catalonia. Entrusted to the Briton Jolyon Palmer for this first run of 2016, the car completed 15 laps in the morning, for a best performance set by the former GP2 Series champion in 1'31″151.

“Integrating the powertrain into the chassis was an immense challenge, but it testifies to the goodwill of the two entities who showed themselves capable of adapting, so much so that no problem disrupted the first start. It was not won with such tight deadlines,
explains Rémi Taffin, engine manager of Renault Sport F1 team.

Just like the chassis, the powertrain used this year is a continuation of the work started last year, while pushing certain ideas even further. We worked on the combustion chamber, the turbo and the electronics to obtain more power without sacrificing reliability. »
