Renault promises better reliability in Austria

If the racing circumstances allowed an engine Renault (rebadged Tag Heuer) to win at the Azerbaijan GP with the victory of Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull), the Losange Power Units suffered on the Baku route.

Max Verstappen (Red Bull) notably abandoned due to a hydraulic problem, while Jolyon Palmer (Renault) also dismounted after having already encountered an oil leak during testing which caused a fire to start on his car. Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso) encountered an electrical problem.

Renault has therefore worked on the new version of its Power Units installed in Baku in order to obtain better reliability for the Austrian GP contested this weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.

“We have implemented new procedures to avoid any problems with the cars, assured Rémi Taffin, the technical director of Renault. We have encountered a series of coincidental problems with our client teams. Battery issues have been studied and they now have a new specification to no longer have these types of problems. With the engine (ICE), the latest version resolves the problems encountered until now by benefiting from new elements. »

Renault will now focus on the reliability of its Power Units after improving their performance.

“We tried to make progress on the version seen in Baku, hoping to obtain even more, but there are no plans for major developments. It will simply be a matter of improving the existing package,” confirms Rémi Taffin.
