Renault reinstated in Valencia

Renault can prepare for its next race, the team will be good in Valencia and Fernando Alonso will be able to run in front of his audience. After the decision of the FIA Court of Appeal, this Monday in Paris, at the FIA headquarters, the Franco-British team obtained what it wanted: the lifting of its suspension.

The FIA Court of Appeal, after hearing the defense of the Renault team and its lawyers, made two decisions. After canceling the sanction imposed on the evening of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Renault was fined $50, accompanied by a simple reprimand. The team defended itself from having intentionally sent Fernando Alonso off the track, arguing that all members of the team were not aware of the problem concerning the Spanish driver?s right front wheel.

After the Hungarian Grand Prix, the race stewards decided to take an exemplary sanction against Renault, by declaring the team suspended for the following event, a heavy and unprecedented sanction. For having allowed Fernando Alonso to leave the track with a poorly tightened wheel, a wheel which would come loose a few dozen seconds later, Renault had been accused of having violated the safety rules governing in Formula 1. The proximity of the death of Henry Surtees, struck by the loss of a wheel during a race Formula 2, had certainly not been unrelated to the severity of the sanction.

For three weeks and the end of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Renault was not sure of its presence in Valencia. If lifting the suspension was an option, nothing was guaranteed despite the appeal filed by the team. The organizers of the European Grand Prix, worried about seeing Fernando Alonso fans deserting the Valencia stands, were also very attentive to the decision of the FIA Court of Appeal. This lifting of the sanction will therefore make more than one person happy on the Valencia side.
