Renault wants to “reclaim 4th place” in the championship

Another year of transition for Renault ? If the Losange does not yet have the ambition to come and tickle the three big cars that are Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull, the French manufacturer cannot afford another poor performance after the 5th place recorded last year.

Because 2020 precedes the 2021 revolution for which Renault often repeats that it is one of the best prepared teams. Certainly the future single-seaters will have nothing to do with current cars in terms of concept, but we don't cultivate winning by stagnating in the soft underbelly of the field.

“Regaining fourth place in the Manufacturers' Championship remains the sporting objective for a season which will be more competitive than ever, thus announces Cyril Abiteboul, main Renault team F1 Team, whilea first look at the RS 20 was unveiled this Wednesday.

We must respect the three priorities set in the off-season: being reliable from the start, ensuring a high level of development very early in the season, and having a good conversion rate on track.

We must also regain confidence and strengthen team spirit to get the best out of everyone, and maximize our chances on each race weekend during a season which will be historically long and trying.

2020 is also a pivotal year which marks the end of one cycle and the preparation for a new one. This year should allow us to approach the regulatory revolution of 2021 in the best possible conditions.

The organizational changes made during the second half of 2019 serve this objective. »

Renault has in fact made several major adjustments to its manufacturing department.enstone last year, changes that culminated in the departure of chassis technical director Nick Chester, who has since been replaced by Pat Fry, who arrived from McLaren.

“We want to resume the positive dynamic of the first three years following our return and prepare ourselves as best as possible for next season which is the start of a new cycle for all teams., added Jérôme Stoll, president of Renault Sport Racing.

Having completed our reconstruction phase, we are more determined than ever to be ready from the start to exploit the best of the 2021 technical regulations. I have every confidence in the Enstone and Viry teams that this new season will be a year of regaining fourth place in the Manufacturers' Championship, but above all to make this new regulatory chapter which is being prepared this year a field of success for the team and the Renault brand.

At a time when Renault's new management is logically reviewing the Group's various activities in an uncertain automotive context, a repeat of last year would not bode well for the F1 program.
