2021: 387,5 points (17,6 ppc). 8 victories, vice-world champion

Falling

The seven-time world champion crushed the competition last year. Here he is beaten at the last moment by the only driver at least as talented as him.

 

Valtteri Bottas

2020: 223 points (13,1 ppc). 2 victories, vice-world champion

2021: 226 points (10,3 ppc). 1 victory, 3rd in the world championship

Falling

The Finn, too quickly left behind in the title race, generally missed out on his 5th and final year with Mercedes.

 

Max Verstappen

2020: 214 points (12,6 ppc). 2 victories, 3rd in the world championship

2021: 395,5 points (18 ppc). 10 victories, world champion

Gainer

The Dutchman showed himself indomitable to claim his first single-seater title, at the end of a thrilling campaign which he splashed with his talent.
