Ricciardo will study proposals from rival teams

The 2020 season has not yet started Daniel Ricciardo must answer questions about his future in Formula 1.

Arrived at Renault in 2019 with a two-year contract in his pocket, the native of Perth is agitating the transfer market all the more as Max Verstappen et Charles Leclerc have already returned to their respective teams, Red Bull et Ferrari, until 2023 and 2024.

With Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Ricciardo, and his 7 career victories, is now the headliner of the transfer window at the dawn of a regulatory upheaval which could reshuffle the cards in the hierarchy. When the Australian joined the French manufacturer from Red Bull, the gamble seemed big. After a year, the results are mixed.

In recent months, Ricciardo's name has often been associated with that of Ferrari where he would then replace Vettel at the end of the race. Asked about the rumors at the FIA press conference in Barcelona during winter testing, the person initially gave us his best tongue-in-cheek. He finally confided that he would study proposals from rival teams, while ensuring that his priority remained the success of the Renault project.

« I will answer the phone for sure, said Ricciardo when talking about the signs of interest he could arouse on the transfer market. But the most important thing right now is making the Renault project work.

I don't want to give the impression that I came here just to skip Red Bull while waiting for a better option. I want it to work, for the efforts to bear fruit.

The objective is to do better than last year obviously and if the results are good enough, then the adventure could continue beyond my two years. This would be the ideal scenario. Afterwards, we can guess 107 years, it is still too early to talk about these subjects.

The season hasn't started yet so there's no point in turning the table around by talking about 2021. I'm not thinking about it at the moment ».

Others take care of it in his place.
