Ricciardo played strategy for the race

Daniel Ricciardo will have waited for its sixth season in Formula 1 for the privilege of securing a pole position. The Australian Red Bull Racing, author of an almost perfect qualifying session, got the better of the two Mercedes by Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton to take an important first step with a view to victory tomorrow in the race.

But it is above all the strategy of Red Bull Racing which will be awaited tomorrow during the Grand Prix, because Daniel Ricciardo will start unlike his direct rivals on super-soft tires, after having used this compound in Q2.

“We will see tomorrow if it works,” commented the Australian at a press conference. The plan was to pass the ultrasofts in the first stint in Q2 and try to put in a good enough lap. Then we had some time and we thought, "Let's try and see what a super-soft can do." »

We think that, perhaps, this opens up a few more options for tomorrow's race. Yes, we had a good lap on this type of tyre, and that set us off well for Q3, knowing that I had the ultra-softs and extra grip and I think I was able to maximize all this and do this trick. Everything went well today, let's hope it works out in our favor tomorrow. »

Ricciardo also praised the work of Renault, he who embeds in his RB12 the evolution of the French engine block. “We have the update that worked pretty well, I think. You can just feel it pushing a little more. It should be interesting with longer straights, like in Canada soon, and Max will have that as well, so it will be interesting to see where we are. »
