Ricciardo: “Close the gap with Tonio”

For his first Grand Prix Formula 1, Daniel Ricciardo will have been discreet. The Australian did not try to put himself forward, and was content to reach the finish in order to gather as much information as possible. This weekend, on the German Nürburgring track, the HRT team member will aim to get closer to the rest of the pack, and in particular to his experienced and fast teammate Vitantonio Liuzzi.

“I know the track well, although it is here that I have one of my worst memories, underlines the pilot of the Red Bull Junior Team. I was riding in F3 Euro Series for the SF Formula team, and I stalled at the start of the second race. But, I finished 6th in the first. More recently, I rode here last month in the World Series by Renault. I had a great race with Robert Wickens, with an impressive change in weather conditions. I didn?t win the battle, but it was still a good race because I really like the track. The first sector is very technical, and the second sector, fluid, is really nice. But the weather is very variable. A bit like in Spa. I hope for once that the sky will remain clement for the Grand Prix. My goal will be to finish the race, and reduce the gap with my opponents and Tonio. »

Considering the performances displayed by the 3.5 Formula Renault 2010 Series vice-champion during the Rookie Tests in which he participated with Red Bull Racing and the Free Practices in which he took part on behalf of Toro Rosso, there is no reason why he can't do it.
