Romain Grosjean: “A driver’s circuit”

Monaco represents in a way a home Grand Prix for Romain Grosjean. The Frenchman will play in the Principality this weekend with his new team Haas F1 Team, which will discover the specificities of the Monegasque route.

If the former Lotus driver has never done better than an eighth place in the race, Grosjean hopes to climb into the points again and will count in particular on the qualifying session to put himself in the best conditions for the Grand Prix.

“The races are always difficult there, recalls the former GP2 champion. Every urban event is complicated. In Monaco, you can't make mistakes or you're in trouble. It is difficult to find the limit of the car. You always have to drive slightly under it, it's very narrow and it goes very quickly between the walls. It's a real challenge.

It is almost impossible to overtake in Monaco unless you take a big risk, in which case you can spend a few hours with the race marshals. Qualifications are key. Something has to happen to get you back if you're behind. »

Just as his Team Principal Günther Steiner repeats, Romain Grosjean believes, however, that the qualities of the driver can make the difference in Monaco. « It's a driver's circuit where you need to have confidence in your car. But if your car doesn't have grip, you won't have confidence, and you can't tell the difference. You have to find the balance between the car, the driver and the attack. Once you are confident, you can really make a difference. »

Remember that the first free practice sessions will take place as usual this Thursday in Monaco.
