Ron Dennis: McLaren will be champion after Mercedes

Initiated in 2015, the return of the association McLaren – Honda does not yet meet the expectations of the British clan. Despite obvious progress in reliability, Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button do not yet compete with the top teams that are Mercedes, Ferrari ou Red Bull Racing.

A situation which does not undermine the confidence of Ron Dennis, boss of McLaren, who believes that his team will be able to regain a world Constructors' crown that has been expected since 1998.

“I sincerely believe that the next world champion after Mercedes will be McLaren, Dennis told the BBC. We're going to get to this goal before other people do. It will be difficult, but I firmly believe in the technical competence of our staff and of Honda. The 2017 regulations should level the playing field, and there is enough time for us and Honda to get back up to speed, so I think we will have a good chance next year.

I think we can win races. I don't want to predict the world championships, but dethroning Mercedes-Benz is going to be a challenge for everyone and I have good reason to believe that we will get there before anyone else. »

This season, the best result obtained by an MP4-31, whose chassis is regularly placed among the best, remains Fernando Alonso's sixth place at the Russian Grand Prix.
