Rosberg on pole without forcing in Sochi

Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) won the 24th pole of his career by winning qualifying for the Russian Grand Prix with a time of 1'35''417. The leader of the Championship did not have to force his talent since his teammate Lewis Hamilton had to dismount at the end of Q2 following a new problem with his energy recovery system which had already put an end to his qualifying in Shanghai (China).

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) was the closest to the benchmark with seven tenths behind, but the four-time world champion will have to fall back five places following his penalty for changing the gearbox. It will therefore be Valtteri Bottas (Williams) who will complete the first row ahead of Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) and Felipe Massa (Williams). Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) and Sergio Pérez (Force India) will also benefit from the German's misfortunes.

Lewis Hamilton should therefore start from tenth place between the Toro Rosso de Max Verstappen et Carlos Sainz Jr. Jenson Button (McLaren) beat his teammate Fernando Alonso for the first time this season in qualifying by taking 12th position while the Asturian will start from 14th place behind the Force India of Nico Hulkenberg.

The Haas are still behind, Romain Grosjean taking only 15th position ahead of his teammate Esteban Gutiérrez who precedes the Renault de Kevin Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer.

The start of the Russian Grand Prix will be given tomorrow at 14 p.m. and will be followed live on Canal+ and with our live text.
