Rosberg: “Don’t compare times”

State-of-the-art stables, Mercedes GP is the only one not to be present in Jerez with its new car. If the W02 signed the best time two days in a row, first of all with Michael Schumacher then with Nico Rosberg, dwelling on this one is hardly interesting, the car not meeting the same regulations as its rivals, and having a season full of development behind it. The star firm and its drivers therefore set about working on the new tires provided by Pirelli. “I am overwhelmed by the tests, admits Rosberg. We learned a lot about tires and a few new things for the new car. It seems that the different tires are closer in performance this year, and that the rear tires are more resistant. You can't really compare lap times with the other teams, but it was interesting to learn a lot with our 2011 car. I'm now looking forward to the two Barcelona sessions with our new Silver Arrow?.

In addition to having set the best time, the German showed himself to be one of the most diligent on the track today with 118 laps completed. In total, the W02 covered 1541 km this week. A significant amount of driving time allowed us to gather a lot of information, to the delight of Ross Brawn, the Team Principal. “We spent three full and prolific days in Jerez, explains the latter. Michael and Nico were able to put in some significant mileage this week, deepening our understanding of Pirelli tires for this new season. This will be very useful to us when the new car is on the track”. Next meeting, Tuesday February 21 for the presentation of the W03.
